Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday said that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has blackened the image of India and might be removed.
“We’re Indians and India is the finest democratic country within the sphere. AFSPA is a draconian guidelines and might be removed from our country. Many felony pointers can even be dealt with. Nonetheless this guidelines has blackened the image of our country. That is my belief,” Neiphiu Rio said.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, too, called for a repeal of the AFSPA.
Neiphiu Rio on Monday visited Mon district and met the relatives of 14 individuals who were killed within the firing incidents in an design between Tiru and Oting village and Mon city on Saturday and Sunday.
One security personnel used to be also killed within the incident.

Rio said that the Centre has given an ex-gratia of Rs 11 lakh every to the families of these killed within the firing incidents.
“I spoke with the Union Home Minister and they are taking the topic very seriously. The Centre has given an ex-gratia of Rs 11 lakh every to the families of deceased people. Our govt has also given Rs 5 lakh every to the deceased of us’s families and Rs 50,000 to the injured people,” Rio said.
Hundreds of of us, village council participants of Oting, Jakphang, Chi villages, leaders of various organisations, civil society teams, students’ organizations, NGOs, and political teams were also recent at the mass funeral of the 14 deceased of us.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma too called for a repeal of the AFSPA.
